December 4 witnessed the long-awaited annual athletics meet.
On this occasion, students made an all-out effort whilst the cheering teams roared from the spectator’s stand. The sprinters dashed across the lanes while the long distance athletes proved their tenacity. On the tracks, Sacred Heart athletes competed to be the fastest. Our S6 graduates marked the last year of their secondary school athletics meet with the Graduate Run with their peers and teachers. In the field events, students gave their best in high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw. The atmosphere was charged with excitement when teachers joined the 4x100m relay with their students. S2 students treated everyone at Wan Chai Sportsground to a splendid fan dance.
We were delighted to have Miss Jamie Wong Wan-Yiu, our honourable guest, Ms Teresina Chan from the Alumnae Association, Ms Emily Lai from the Parent-Teacher Association, and the Vice Principals to present prizes to our fastest, highest and strongest.
Miss Jamie Wong, the established local cyclist, HKSAR delegate of 2010 Asian Games, 2012 London Olympics and 2013 Asian Cycling Championship, expressed her recognition of the zeal of our athletes. She made a point on her own history of transition from rowing to cycling as she illustrated the value of remaining open to opportunities to explore the new realms. She further shared with Sacred Heartists her vibrant life as a host of a radio programme and a freelance writer at this stage of her life.
Chen JingZhi (Nightingale), Chan Yin Yan (Bronte) and Lee Wing Sze (Bronte) each earned the individual championships and brought glory to their own houses. House of Teresa and House of Keller took down the A Grade and C Grade house championship respectively. House of Pankhurst was the champion of B Grade and overall champion of the annual athletics meet this year. Congratulations on their distinguished performance! House of Bronte was the champion of the cheering competition.
The annual athletics meet is always a delightful event in which we celebrate the collaborative effort of everyone. We would not have made it without the joint effort of the Physical Education Department, Sports Society, our six houses, uniform groups, student and teacher officials, our janitors, School IT Team, Campus TV, school photographers and many more.
