SHCC Fun Fair 2025 — Esperia: Where Hearts Bloom and Hope Takes Flight was successfully held on 24 and 25 January 2025.
The Student Council was given the honour to kick off the 165th school anniversary celebration with this Fun Fair, and to raise funds for the school’s forthcoming anniversary celebration events. Over the past few months, all teachers, student bodies, and non-teaching staff had made tireless contributions towards organising booths and performances for this occasion. Students acquired valuable hands-on experience through the design and management of various booths and celebrated their accomplishments throughout the event.
The school had the pleasure of inviting Sr Sandra, the Mother General of the Daughters of Charity of the Canossian Institute and General Councillors Sr Jose Mary, Sr Melissa, and Sr Mariana to the 165th Anniversary Opening Ceremony cum Fun Fair. Their presence has given our school community recognition and immense support.
The Opening Ceremony began with a narrative of the school’s rich legacy. Each of the four batons the student representatives held symbolised the journey started 165 years ago and still continuing as we head towards the future. The audience was brought back to the beginning of the six Canossian Sisters’ valiant effort to travel from Italy to Hong Kong, establishing a school to provide educational opportunities for girls. As the narrative advanced towards the present, our guests and attendees witnessed the evolution of our school community, highlighting the 800 plus individuals who each embodies a unique essence of Sacred Heart, gradually impacting the world as our school community grows. Through celebrating the school’s anniversary, we aim to inspire everyone to leave their marks in the world as the story which began from charity goes on to continue its legacy.
Our dance team and school choir added wonderful dance and choir performances to the festive atmosphere, and students from SKH Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School joined our opening ceremony with an energetic Chinese lion dance to celebrate our 165th anniversary and the opening of the Fun Fair. The Student Council gives our big thanks to the dance team and school choir, and a special appreciation to SKH Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School for their thoughtfulness and performance.
The two-day Fun Fair featured game booths and workshops designed and operated by our clubs and societies. There were four seasonal zones: ‘Spring’ signifying ‘joy’, ‘Summer’ representing ‘warmth’, ‘Autumn’ symbolising ‘change’, and ‘Winter’ embodying ‘love’. These zones reflected the cycle of nature, encouraging Sacred Heartists to embrace their distinctiveness and resilience while pursuing their aspirations with optimism. Visitors to the Fun Fair engaged in these activities while savouring an array of refreshments provided by the Parent-Teacher Association, the Student Council, clubs and societies as well as other food suppliers.
We were privileged to have various school teams showcasing their talents. The performances commenced with the senior school choir and school orchestra. The senior choir gave a wonderful mixed choir performance in collaboration with choir members from St. Joseph’s College. Our dance team members delighted the visitors with dances in different cultures, while the six houses danced with energy and passion. At the same time, the Drama Club put on their latest production in the auditorium for the enjoyment of visitors.
A notable highlight of the Fun Fair was the Sacred Heart Enterprise Challenge, organised by the Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Team. This initiative provided our S3 students with an opportunity to cultivate their entrepreneurial skills. Under the guidance of their senior mentors, each of the six S3 classes designed and marketed their own products for sale during the Fun Fair, raising funds for their chosen NGOs or social enterprises. This endeavour enabled them to develop diverse competencies while demonstrating their collaborative abilities and creativity.
To all guests and visitors, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for your participation in the Fun Fair — Esperia. The Student Council was honoured to have welcomed you to the event and showed you the multiple talents, achievements and wide range of interests our schoolmates possess. It was especially joyful to see so many alumnae from different generations, some coming back with their children, to enjoy the games and performances at the Fun Fair. Your presence enhanced the vibrancy of the event and made it successful; for these we are profoundly grateful.
We are also extending our heartfelt gratitude to the Parent-Teacher Association and the Alumnae Association for their invaluable support, companionship and generous sponsorship. They played an indispensable role in the success of the Fun Fair.
On behalf of all student bodies and teams involved in the Fun Fair, we hope that all guests and visitors had a wonderful time at the SHCC 165th Anniversary Fun Fair. As Sacred Heartists, we will continue to explore new horizons, potential and individuality to become part of the Sacred Heart legacy.
