Annual Athletics Meet 2024-2025

On February 7, the Annual Athletics Meet was held at Wan Chai Sports Ground. Our School Supervisor, Sr Veronica, and our Principal, Miss Renie Sinn, together with the Vice Principals, Miss Irene Yung and Mr David Hung, as well as Assistant Principal Miss Chan Yuk Lin, officiated at the sports event.

On this occasion, students made an all-out effort whilst the cheering teams roared from the spectator stand. The sprinters dashed for the finish line while the long distance athletes proved their tenacity. In field events, athletes tested their limits on high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement when teachers joined the 4x100m relay with their students.  The S6 graduates marked their last attendance at the Athletics Meet with the Graduation Run with their classmates, peers and teachers. Another highlight of the day was the dance performance by our S2 students, who ended their dance with the words ‘SHCC 165’ created on the track in celebration of the school’s 165th anniversary.

We were delighted to have Miss Choi Pui Yan Coco, our honourable guest; Mr Benny Cheuk, Chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association; Ms Janice Yip, Chairlady of the Alumnae Association; our Principal, Vice Principals and Assistant Principal to present prizes to the winners.

Chan Yin Yan (Bronte), Lee Wing Sze (Bronte) and Yau Man Hei (Curie) became the Individual Champions in A, B and C Grades respectively, bringing glory to their own houses. The B Grade Champion was House of Pankhurst, and House of Teresa was the C Grade House Champion. House of Keller proved themselves as the Champion of A Grade and Overall Champion. They were also the Champion of the Cheering Competition while House of Bronte won the Inter-House Cheering Song Writing Competition.

Miss Coco Choi, our guest of honour and alumna, expressed her recognition of the zeal of our athletes. Miss Choi is a former member of the Hong Kong Athletics Team, a former member of the Hong Kong Badminton Junior Squad, and the Women Junior Champion in Mizuno HK Half-Marathon Championship 2011. She recapped her good old days on the sportsground, where she broke three school athletics records in A Grade 1500m, B Grade 800m and 1500m.  She encouraged all Sacred Heartists to stay competitive so that they could meet annually at Wan Chai Sports Ground – the Division 1 venue.

The Annual Athletics Meet is always a delightful event in which we witness the collaborative effort of the whole school. The event would not have been made successful without the joint effort of the Physical Education Department, Sports Society, the six houses, uniform groups, student and teacher officials, janitors, School IT Team, Campus TV, school photographers and the guidance from advisers of the English Speech and Debating Society.
