In July, our 12 Sacred Heart scholars set off to Seoul to compete in the Global Round
competition, where they garnered 2 trophies and 39 gold and 31 silver medals. Our youngest
scholar, Ashley Fung, was named one of the best debaters and demonstrated her exceptional
debating skills and intellectual prowess at the Debate Showcase.
The esteemed international competition aimed to motivate participants to engage in
collaborative learning, discover their strengths, and appreciate cultural diversity. This year, the
theme was ‘Reigniting the Future’. Our scholars participated in four events: Collaborative
Writing, Scholar’s Bowl, Scholar’s Challenge, and Team Debate, showcasing their teamwork
and critical thinking skills across various disciplines, including science, literature, history, and the
arts. All the teams excelled in team debate and collaborative writing.
Academic competitions aside, our scholars had the opportunity to immerse themselves in
activities with scholars from diverse cultural backgrounds. The Scavenger Hunt on the first day
and the Cultural Fair held after the fierce competitions were unique opportunities to foster new
friendships and cultural awareness, rather than contributing to the formal competitive score.
The competition was indeed an enriching experience, as it not only challenged our scholars
academically but also fostered a love for learning and a global perspective. All teams qualified
for the 2025 Tournament of Champions at Yale University this November. Their astounding
achievements were a testament to their untiring effort, teamwork, and dedication to excellence.
