On 13 January 2026, Sacred Heart Canossian College welcomed the visit by Mr Sun Xianliang, the Principal of our latest sister school Qingdao Haier School, and Miss Xu Yuchen, the Art teacher of the school.
The visit commenced with the sister school contract signing ceremony between the two schools, which followed the singing of the national anthem. The two principals signed firmly on the contract with much anticipation to the coming collaborations and exchanges. Miss Sinn, our Principal, presented Mr Sun school souvenirs as a token to welcome the new friendship and a new chapter between the two schools.
In her welcome speech. Miss Sinn emphasised the meaning of education as a bridge to connect knowledge and curiosity, cultures and communities, and most importantly, people and people. The signing of the sister school contract signifies the connection between Hong Kong and Qingdao, allowing students to learn from the experiences, traditions and perspectives of each other. It is a promise to nurture global citizens who are compassionate, open-minded, and ready to embrace challenges of the future. Through exchanges and collaborations, Miss Sinn is confident that Sacred Heartists will discover that while students of the two schools may come from different cities, they share the same dreams of growth, understanding and excellence.
Mr Sun expressed his pleasure in finding a like-minded educational partner who embraces a progressive educational philosophy, and with whom he can share insights on navigating education in today’s era. He advocates for holistic, competency-based education, firmly believing that in this age of AI and information, we should move beyond traditional teaching methods. He believes that education should aim to develop five essential skills, namely lifelong learning ability, innovative thinking, problem-solving capabilities, collaborative skills, and self-motivation. He thinks that these competencies can be nurtured through both curriculum and extracurricular activities. Mr Sun hopes to strengthen collaboration in education and teaching, and engage in discussions about educational philosophies.
After the contract signing ceremony, Mr Sun and Miss Xu continued the whole-day visit with a school campus tour and lesson observations ranging from English Language, mathematics and science subjects to Geography, Visual Arts and Home Economics.
