School Reopening Mass 2026-2027

On 15 September, the School Reopening Mass was celebrated in the College Hall, bringing together students and teachers in thanksgiving and prayer at the start of the new academic year.

In his homily, Rev Benedict Shum reflected on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. He reminded us that study is a schooling in earnestness: learning to handle our responsibilities with sincerity, and to discern right from wrong. To abandon a task the moment it becomes unpleasant, he observed, is not the right attitude to take. Turning to the feast of the day, Rev Shum spoke of how God brings forth fruit through suffering. The Cross, an instrument of shame and execution - by all appearances a defeat - became the very means of our salvation. In the same way, the hardships that accompany our studies are not wasted, but instead yield something beautiful in its own season.

During the Eucharistic Celebration, the Service Portfolio was offered, symbolising  the commitment to serve one another and the wider community. Representatives from each form also came forward to present their learning goals, each written on a coloured paper strip - a heartfelt offering of the aspirations they carry into the year ahead.

As part of the celebration, the incoming executive committee members of the Catholic Society were formally installed. The whole assembly then took up the commission to emulate the fine example of our Foundress, St Magdalene of Canossa, and to bring the school theme on learning and character-building to life.
