School Reopening Ceremony 2020-21

On 1 September, we arranged the reopening of the new academic year online through video broadcast. We celebrated the reopening of the new academic year with City of God, prayers and Bible readings.

After introducing the new staff, Sr Veronica, our Principal, gave a keynote address on the school theme, Celebrating the Past with Gratitude, Embracing the Future with Hope and Sharing our Life in Love. She started with a recap on why the past history of our 160 years of establishment is worthy of thanksgiving: a record of love and courage the Canossian Missionary demonstrated in time of prevalent destitution, wars and social unrest. Then our Principal moved on to the indelible endurance these Italian sisters exhibited as they aced the hard times, all for the love of local people and for God they served. Sr Veronica further edified us to live up to the theme of gratitude, hope and love the way our former leaders exemplified. She made a note on cultivating ourselves to be autonomous life-long learners with prospects. Student involvement is an integral part of our school development. There are several instances. In the first place, the 160th anniversary logo is the work of Calesta Ng, who won the 160th anniversary design competition last year. The second student contribution concerns the publication of our Student Companion. It is more than a schedule book. In their collaborative effort, our S6 Head Girl Core Group members designed the 2020-21 version upon our House System. The publication introduces our six houses as well as the qualities of imminent female leaders each house aspires to be develop: creativity in the Bronte sisters, intellectual competence in Marie Curie, perseverance in Helen Keller, altruism in Florence Nightingale, justice in Emmeline Pankhurst and compassion in Mother Teresa.

Miss Florence Kwok further updated us on 160th anniversary celebratory programmes, student welfare and scholarships. Mr David Hung gave a briefing on online learning and teaching. Mr Anthony Mo reminded us of matters related to schedule and rules. Ms April Cheung gave us advice on why and how to establish emotional connections. Miss Clara Ho explained club and student activities matters. We marked the end of the online reopening ceremony with our School song- ‘In voices strong we sing together, united in the Sacred Heart…In friendship true, in mutual love, our common end let us attain; of Sacred Heart School worthy prove in all the trials, in every strain.’
