Organised by tramplus, the Grand Challenge invited teams from all secondary schools in Hong Kong to come up with proposals rooted in STEAM to modernize the iconic Hong Kong trams and shape the city to become even more sustainable and inclusive for the community. In the process, STEAM innovation and creativity were promoted to students and young minds were encouraged to explore the local tram history.

Our team of students Kong Suet Ching Scarlett, Chang Yi Lam Charlotte, Tang Tsz Yau Magdalene and Wai Chuen Yiu Nicole was chosen as the Champion in the Chinese Division. They were also awarded the Best Presentation Award and Second Most Popular Award. Through interviewing tram drivers and passengers, as well as field observations, the team designed a smart system to provide information on the next trams and seat availability for passengers to plan their rides.

Congratulations to Scarlett, Charlotte, Magdalene and Nicole! They applied their STEAM knowledge to creative solutions for the needs of society with good results!
