Organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Create Your District Competition 2024 aims to encourage students to explore the rich history, cultural traditions, and urban development of To Kwa Wan area in Kowloon City District through designing an ideal and sustainable community.
Congratulations to Kwok Wan Chi, Angie and Wong Hoi Yau, Chloe, who won the Championship of the Micro Film Category, Best ESG Award and Best Presentation Award. Stressed on the importance of preserving the Hakka culture, their winning proposal features a creatively designed mascot that promotes the rich history of To Kwa Wan and introduces an engaging checkpoint game to attract young visitors. Their entry demonstrates a profound understanding of the historical and cultural context, as well as a thoughtful integration of community needs, sustainable practices, and innovative design elements that inject vitality into the community.
Through the competition, the team has gained invaluable insights into the fields of surveying and urban planning. They have particularly benefited from the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology through their participation in the story map training workshop. The application of GIS has enhanced their ability to communicate ideas through interactive maps and data visualisations. Additionally, the students have gained a deeper appreciation of how spatial data informs urban planning and community development.
