2026 The World Scholar’s Cup (Hong Kong Round)

On 14 and 15 March, Ashley Fung, Winki Tang, Selly Gurung, Zoe Cheng, Jade Wong, and Henrietta Lam participated in the World Scholar’s Cup Hong Kong Regional Round.

With academic activities like debates and essay writing, the World Scholar’s Cup is an enriching international competition that brings elite students together to expand their perspectives and global awareness. The first day consisted of three debates centered around compelling motions, like ‘People should be allowed to extend their adolescence until they want.’ The debates were exceptionally challenging, as they were completely impromptu. Scholars were given 15 minutes to prepare for their speeches without the use of notes or electronic devices, challenging their critical thinking and teamwork skills. In the afternoon, our students participated in the Collaborative Essay Writing Session, where they collaborated and developed their thoughts on essay topics such as ‘When is it about the destination, not the journey?’ and ‘If you could edit one mistake from the past, what would it be?’. These topics prompted scholars to engage in creative thinking. The day concluded with the Scholar’s Challenge, an academic test including arts, literature, history, science, and social sciences. The Scholars Bowl, which took place on the second day, challenged participants to discuss and select the right answers in a multiple-choice style while under time pressure.

Throughout the two days, the six students undoubtedly sharpened their debating skills and honed their writing techniques. This experience also greatly strengthened their critical thinking and effective collaboration.

The six students performed exceptionally well, earning a combined total of 31 gold and silver medals. Winki Tang, Jade Wong, and Henrietta Lam received a trophy as first runners-up in the Senior Team Debating Event. Ashley Fung, Selly Gurung, and Zoe Cheng were also awarded ninth place in the Senior Team Debating Event. In individual debate, Winki Tang secured eighth, Ashley Fung placed fourth, and—most notably—Henrietta Lam was named first runner-up and invited to demonstrate her debate skills in the Debate Showcase.

The competition was an insightful experience. Their remarkable achievements demonstrated their untiring effort, teamwork, and dedication. As finalists, all of them will compete in the Global Round, representing our school with pride on the global stage.
