165th Anniversary Eucharistic Celebration

To express our gratitude for God’s abundant blessings over 165 years, we celebrated the establishment of Sacred Heart Canossian College at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on 30 April 2025.

We were honoured to have Rev. Paul Kam, Vicar General of Hong Kong, as our celebrant, alongside Rev. Dominic Chan, Rev. Christopher Chor, and Rev. Vincenzo Soffia as con-celebrants, assisted by Rev. Deacon Francis Choi. Rev. Kam delivered an insightful homily on the dedication and resilience exhibited by the six pioneer sisters from the Canossian Missions in Italy. Their unwavering commitment to the poor led to the establishment of a humble refuge for sick and deprived girls. Just seventeen days after their arrival, on 1 May 1860, the Italian Convent School on Caine Road—now Sacred Heart Canossian College—was founded.

The mass offering included 165 Easter eggs from SHCC, the two primary schools, and the kindergarten. Each egg contained quotes from the Bible and our Foundress, symbolising our commitment to share the new life that Jesus Christ brings to all mankind and our desire to pass on His love to future generations. Additionally, the anniversary logo was presented as part of the offering, representing the love and compassion of the Canossian Sisters, teachers, and students over the past 165 years. This legacy of providing a holistic education based on Christian values empowers our young women to be individuals of integrity and versatility, ready to share, serve, and sacrifice for others. Our SHCC dance team also offered a dance celebrating the gift of aesthetic development that the Lord has bestowed upon Sacred Heartists.

Towards the end of the celebration, Sr. Veronica Fok, our School Supervisor, expressed gratitude to our celebrant, co-celebrants, and all the guests, alumnae and friends in attendance. The Principals and Vice Principals of SHCC, the two primary schools and kindergarten, performed the passing of candlelight as the story of the founding of Sacred Heart Canossian College was narrated.

At Chi Fu Campus, S1-3 non-Catholic students and teachers joined the live-streaming in the College Hall. Before the Eucharistic celebration, Sr. Rita Chung led the crowd to revisit the history of our school’s foundation. Sr. Catherine Fung further enriched the occasion by elaborating on the messages in the selected readings for the Mass in her pre-recorded video. She highlighted the virtues of St. Magdalene of Canossa: S for Simplicity, H for Humility, C for Charity, and C for being Christ-centered.
