On 30 September, Wan Chai Sports Ground came alive for our school’s Annual Athletics Meet. The event was formally opened by our School Supervisor, Sr Veronica, Principal Miss Renie Sinn, Vice Principals Miss Irene Yung and Mr David Hung, and Assistant Principal Miss Chan Yuk Lin.
The track and field was a showcase of sheer determination. Cheers from the stands fueled the competitors, from the explosive speed of the sprinters to the enduring stamina of the long-distance runners. In the field, athletes pushed their boundaries in the high jump, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw.
A wave of excitement swept the ground as teachers and students teamed up for the 4x100m relay. Our S6 graduates marked their final Athletics Meet with an emotional Graduation Run alongside their peers and teachers.
During the prize presentation, we were pleased to have Miss Eleana Leung, our guest of honour; Ms Jessica Chui, the Representative of the Parent Teacher Association; Ms Janice Yip, the Chairperson of the Alumnae Association; our Principal, Vice Principals and Assistant Principal to celebrate the victors.
Individual Championship honours were secured by Chan Yin Yan (Bronte) in A Grade, Lee Wing Sze (Bronte) and Yau Man Hei (Curie) in B Grade, and Chang Sum Jing (Pankhurst) in C Grade. House of Teresa claimed the B Grade House Champion title. House of Pankhurst achieved a remarkable double victory, being crowned both the A and C Grade House Champions and winning the House Cheering Competition. The prestigious title of Overall Champion was won by House of Curie.
Our distinguished guest, Miss Eleana Leung, a former Hong Kong Athletics representative, offered heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes. Having competed on the global stage at the World Youth Championships and the World University Games, Miss Leung held the Hong Kong Junior 400m record for over a decade. In her address, she drew a powerful parallel from her signature event, the 400m, which she described as the most exhausting of the sprints. “Yet, it is just like life,” she reflected. She shared that when her results were unsatisfactory, she would reflect on her mistakes and set new, clear goals for improvement. Miss Leung encouraged every student to adopt the same approach, using both victories and setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth.
Following the inspiring address, Amera Pan, Vice Chairlady of the Sports Society, delivered a sincere vote of thanks. She expressed her profound gratitude to the distinguished guests, and to the School Supervisor and Principal for their unwavering support. She also extended thanks to the teacher advisers of the Sports Society, teacher and student officials, all school staff, the dedicated athletes, and every individual who contributed to making the event a vibrant and resounding success.
The Annual Athletics Meet concluded not just with a record of winners and points, but with a strengthened sense of community and shared memory.
