From 2 March to 6 March, our school hosted Chinese Culture Week, a collaborative initiative by the Departments of the Chinese Language, Chinese History, and Chinese Literature, alongside the Chinese Culture Club. The programme aimed to transform the campus into an immersive cultural environment, moving beyond traditional academic instruction to help students appreciate the historical evolution of Chinese civilisation and cultivate a profound sense of cultural identity.
Opening Ceremony and Lion Dance
The week commenced with an opening ceremony featuring a performance by the Lion Dance Team from SKH Chi Fu Chi Nam Primary School. The vibrancy of the performance established a high-spirited atmosphere for the ensuing activities.
Experiential Cultural Workshops
Daily lunchtime sessions were held in the School Hall. By introducing intangible cultural heritage—including calligraphy, paper-cutting, and traditional folk crafts—onto the campus, the school provided students with opportunities to engage with ‘living culture’ and gain deeper insights into its values.
Diversified Learning Day and Sichuan Opera
The final day was designated as an OLE Friday activity featuring an array of educational booths, such as sachet making and lotus-lantern crafting. The week concluded with a headline performance and lecture by Ms Wai Fei-hung, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Sichuan Opera face-changing.
Culture as a Vehicle for Holistic Development
Chinese Culture Week exemplified holistic education that uses culture as its primary medium. By participating in these experiences, students were encouraged to recognise their cultural roots and develop a nuanced understanding of the world. Our objective is to nurture individuals who possess both a strong sense of national sentiment and a broad global perspective.
As articulated in the event theme, ‘Artistry in Ink, Elegance in Tradition’ (民藝墨韻築雅趣), the programme sought to foster an appreciation for the aesthetics of life, a reverence for cultural heritage, and a hopeful outlook toward the future through the exploration of traditional arts.
