Rev. Peter Lo, Deputy Chief Executive of Caritas Hong Kong, celebrated the S6 Thanksgiving Mass in the College Hall on 30 June.
In his homily, Rev. Peter shared an experience from his own journey more than a decade ago, when he lived and served in Cambodia. He described a place that was, at the time, deeply underdeveloped. He worked in a local hospital caring for patients with tuberculosis and AIDS. Among them were children and adolescents living with HIV, who, despite the medical expectation that they would not live past age 21, were receiving an education. When he asked a nun why the children needed to go to school, she answered, ‘We give them what they need at their age. We give what is suitable for them.’ Rev. Peter drew from his memory to encourage our S6 graduates to ponder on what they truly need. He reminded them that the most precious gift they take with them is growth, which has been quietly and faithfully nurtured in them by our school.
During the Eucharistic Celebration, our S6 graduates brought a beautifully prepared board to the altar. The board displayed an acrostic of the word ‘THANKS’, each letter carrying a meaning close to their hearts:
Trust
Hope
Appreciation
Nourishment
Kindness
Service
Through these words, the graduates reflected on what they take forward: trust in God’s plan for an uncertain future, hope grounded in Christ’s resurrection, heartfelt appreciation for the formation they have received, gratitude for the spiritual and intellectual nourishment of their school years, a commitment to carry kindness into the world, and a call to humble service after Christ’s own example.
Miss Renie Sinn, our School Principal, gave each graduate a keepsake, while Rev. Peter offered a blessing over them. Standing alongside, the homeroom teacher of each class also offered encouragement, sending the graduates forward with warmth and affirmation.
After the Mass, the graduates showed videos revisiting the unforgettable moments of school life. Filled with playful commentary and many amusing remarks, the videos drew laughter, tears, and heartfelt thanksgiving. The graduates also paid tribute to the teachers, technicians, office staff, and janitors, whose dedication has shaped their daily lives, bringing the celebration to a warm close.
